The Mastery of Life Part 11
The Manifestation of Love (Conclusion)
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
As we conclude this series on self-control, true self-control comes from aligning our hearts with love. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) that flows from love. When we genuinely love God, ourselves, and others, we naturally exercise self-control—not as a burden, but as a joyful expression of love.
To illustrate this, the famous "love chapter" in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 beautifully shows how love and self-control are inseparably linked:
"Love is patient" – Patience requires self-control. We restrain frustration and anger in both our speech and temperament.
"Love is kind" – Kindness requires self-control. Instead of reacting harshly or passing judgment, love enables us to hold back hurtful words and extend gentleness and grace.
"It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud" – Love contains pride and jealousy. Self-control helps us yield to the Spirit with humility and examine our hearts before God.
"It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs" – Love teaches us to control our emotions, refusing to dwell on offenses or act selfishly.
"Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth" – Self-control disciplines our hearts to reject sin and clings to righteousness.
"It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres" – Self-control gives us the strength to endure, enabling us to protect, trust, hope, and persevere in all circumstances
I pray that each of us may be filled with God’s love, for His love has the power to transform our hearts and lead us into a life of mastery and self-control.
Tip: The best habit we can cultivate is to spend time with God daily and read His Word.
Prayer: Abba father, thank You for teaching us that true self-control flows from Your love. May you take away our fear, and give us power, love and self-discipline. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
