Being the Best Man of the Bridegroom
John the Baptist, recognized as the forerunner of Christ, provides a deep example of humility and joy in service. When questioned about his role relative to Jesus, John likened himself to the best man at a wedding, not the groom. This metaphor beautifully illustrates our role in ministry. Like the best man who rejoices in the groom's happiness and success, our ministry should be to joyfully support Christ's work, not to compete for attention or glory.
Our daily walk with Christ should echo John's words: 'He must increase, but I must decrease' (John 3:30). By embracing this attitude, we find true contentment and purpose, knowing that it is Christ who is exalted, and we are fulfilling our God-given role.
Reflection:
How can you adjust your personal and ministry goals to better reflect John the Baptist's attitude of "He must increase, but I must decrease"?
Prayer and Declaration:
Abba Father, we submit to Your plan and are grateful for the role You have entrusted to us. Like John the Baptist, let us find our greatest joy in hearing and proclaiming Your voice. Help us to embrace humility, always pointing others to You and not to ourselves. Lord, in every act and word, let us decrease so that You can increase. Fill our hearts with the joy that comes from serving You, knowing that our fulfillment lies in Your exaltation. We rejoice in Your work, Lord, and are grateful to be a part of it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
