The True Beauty of Pleasantness

"Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands." - Psalm 90:17

In Psalm 90:17, we encounter the Hebrew word 'נֹעַם' (No'am), which represents beauty, pleasantness, delight, and grace. This word captures the essence of God's divine nature, which isn't easily measured in physical or aesthetic terms. Instead, we see God's beauty through the grace and kindness He extends to His children. Proverbs 16:24 teaches us that 'Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.' Here, the connection between pleasant words and the manifestation of God’s beauty is clear. Our words, thoughts, and actions, when filled with grace, reflect God’s true beauty. This beauty is deeply enriching and inspiring, encouraging both men and women to pursue the beauty of pleasantness, a true reflection of God's character

Reflection Question:

How can you learn from Jesus to use pleasant words and gracious actions in your life to reflect the beauty of the Lord?

Prayer:

Abba Father, we seek the beauty of Your presence in our lives as expressed in Psalm 27:4, where we desire to behold Your beauty and to inquire in Your temple. Grant us the grace to show the pleasantness and graciousness of Christ in all our thoughts, words, and deeds. As Proverbs 3:17 describes, Your ways are 'ways of pleasantness'; help us to walk in these paths, making our lives a testimony to Your inherent beauty and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
