Chosen for a Purpose

"But the Lord said to him, 'Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.'" (Acts 9:15)

Acts 9:15 reminds us that just like Paul, we are chosen by God, not because of our merits but purely by His grace. Paul, once a persecutor of Christians, was chosen to spread the Gospel among Gentiles and kings—a testament to God's initiative and the transformative power of His grace.

God's election is His sovereign choice, an act of mercy; it is not based on our actions or decisions. It is God's plan, set before the foundation of the world, that determines our purpose. Yet, this divine election is not a call to passivity. As 2 Peter 1:10 urges us, we are to make our election sure by cultivating virtues that make us effective and fruitful in our knowledge of Jesus Christ.

This interplay between divine sovereignty and human responsibility becomes even more dynamic. We are not merely passive recipients of God's grace; rather, we are active participants in fulfilling His call. Making our election sure is an ongoing process that involves a response to God's initiative—a journey of character development and spiritual growth.

Abba Father, we thank You for choosing us as Your vessels, not based on our works but on Your great grace. Lord, as You called Paul to witness Your name courageously, let us also embrace our call.
