The fulfilment of Love - Decision (Part 1)
We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
Love is hard to explain, but it is essential to understand that God is love. (1 John 4:8) The essence of love is God Himself. Whenever we experience any kind of love in this life, we are connected to God's nature at its core.
True love in any relationship or every encounter with love will awaken our hearts to God in a relational way, and we can sense God's love in the process. Love points us toward our heavenly father, because God is love.
Love is our deepest and most important need in life. Despite this, love has so many facets and complexity that it is impossible for me to sum it up. Love, however, is fundamentally about relationships, and the greatest commandments have to do with loving God and loving others.
This quote really spoke to me: “Love is a decision to be committed. And with commitment comes action. According to the quote, love requires three elements: decision, commitment, and action. Love starts with a heart decision. When we choose to love someone, we exercise our free will to make that choice. When we choose love every day, we commit to love and take action from our hearts.
Can we choose to hate, reject, or withdraw from love? Yes, absolutely! The choice is ours as well. It is mankind's decisions to walk away from some relationships and God's love cause many evils and relationship breakdowns.
Does God feel pain when His children reject His love and grace? I believe so. We could have been made like robots to follow His commands, yet He gives us free will to choose whether or not to love Him. The ultimate of love is that even if we reject God, God still loves us. Knowing we can choose to love is an empowering gift.
"I have no choice" is not a valid statement when it comes to love. It is God's gift to us to have free will to make choices. There are some people who struggle to love God and people, but the first step is to exercise our ability to choose love. Choosing to accept and receive God's love is the first step towards experiencing God's love.
God invites you to receive His love. Would you choose to receive it?
Blessing prayer: I choose to love you, Jesus. Every day, I will choose to receive your love and allow it to root in my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
